Solar energy is clean and renewable, reducing your carbon footprint and reliance on fossil fuels. By generating electricity from sunlight, you help combat air and water pollution, mitigate climate change, and conserve natural resources.
Solar panels can significantly reduce or even eliminate your electricity bills. Illinois offers a state solar rebate program and net metering, allowing you to earn credits for excess energy your system produces and sell it back to the grid, further offsetting your costs
Homes with solar panels typically sell for more than those without. Studies have shown that solar installations can increase property values, making your home more attractive to potential buyers if you decide to sell in the future.

You've likely heard of and seen other home owners & businesses installing solar panels on their roofs, but always asked the question, does Solar truly save money, and what is the environmental impact of solar?
Installing solar panels on your home promotes US energy independence, and significantly reduces your homes environmental impact by using the sun as your energy resource. Solar energy systems do not produce air pollution or greenhouse gases. Using solar energy can have a positive, indirect effect on the environment when solar energy replaces or reduces the use of other energy sources that have larger effects on the environment.
Lots of energy used today is generated by natural gas, coal, and some nuclear energy. Over time, if most homes convert to solar, we would be able to significantly reduce carbon footprint.
Federal Tax Exemptions.
Don’t forget about federal solar incentives! With the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), you can reduce the cost of your PV solar energy system by 26 percent. You should contact a qualified tax professional to advise you regarding your eligibility for the Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit.
Property Tax Exemptions.
Illinois allows for an alternative valuation of renewable energy home upgrades from property tax assessments. This means that the value you add to your home by installing solar panels, home batteries, or smart home energy controllers won’t add to your property tax assessment.
Illinois Net Metering.
Thanks to Illinois’ net metering policy, your utility will buy back any excess electricity your solar system produces. Net metering ensures that you benefit from the full value of your solar panels and is a great way to balance out your electricity production and consumption, which do not always happen at the same time. Payment for excess electricity is not guaranteed and is dependent on your utility offering net metering. You should contact your utility for more information.
